SMS is limited to 160 characters of plain text from an unverified short code or number. RCS delivers branded, verified, multimedia messages with buttons, carousels, and read receipts — inside the same messages app.

Do my prospects need to install anything? +

No. RCS is built into Google Messages by default, and Apple began rolling out RCS support with iOS 18. Recipients on older devices automatically receive an SMS fallback.
